Happo City lies in the mountainous far northwestern corner of Akita Prefecture. In addition to the Sea of Japan, the city offers access to the outstanding Shirakami Mountains, which were designated a World Heritage Site in 1993. Visitors to Happo City can also find wonderful camping sites and hot springs in the city. A couple of the noteworthy local events hosted by the city are the Shirakami Shrine Festival and Happo Fireworks Display.
