Off the Beaten Path Japan

Welcome to Off the Beaten Path Japan, a portal site to help you find locations to escape the overtourism that plagues many of the most popular locations in Japan. You will find links to local tourism associations for cities, things to see, restaurants, and lodgings.

Japan can be broken down into nine regions—Hokkaido, Tohoku, Chubu, Kanto, Kansai, Chubu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa. Most of the regions consist of several prefectures but two are single prefecture regions.

The site is a work in progress and new items will be regularly added so be sure to check out the site on a regular basis.
